Breast reconstruction is surgery
to rebuild a breast's shape after a mastectomy.
A common procedure used in breast reconstruction,
and one in which Dr. Chartchai is experienced in
performing, is a tram flap reconstruction.
TRAM
flap reconstruction
In a TRAM (Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous)
flap reconstruction, skin and tissue are removed
usually from the patient's abdomen in such a way
that a breast-like mound can be refashioned in place
of a lost breast. A nipple may be reconstructed later.
