Most patients feel terrific when
they are discharged from hospital. If they are
visitors they tend to get carried away with too
much sightseeing too early. If they are Bangkok
residents, they return too soon to household and
family obligations.
Don't rush. One of the after effects
of surgery is often a feeling of elation and energy
which, if not tempered by bed rest and low levels
of activity, may actually set your recovery back
by a few days.
In general, plan to stay in bed
for a day after you return from the hospital,
and don't exert yourself for a couple of days.
You need not feel guilty about doing so. Relax
and enjoy being lazy!
Initial swelling and bruising tends
to fade rather quickly so that within a week to
10 days, you will be comfortable seen in public
or flying home. Dr. Chartchai will advise you
on the expectations for your surgical procedures.
Most of the swelling and bruising
associated with your surgery will likely be gone
within 3 weeks. No matter what the surgery, you'll
most likely have swelling for at least 6 months.
Be patient. It takes 1-2 years,
for instance, for an abdominoplasty
scar to soften and lighten. Dr. Chartchai
will discuss with you current techniques used
and products available to minimize scarring.
